Ortho Technology’s Exclusive Spider Screw System

Our team at Ortho Technology is always looking to provide high quality, innovative products that make life easier on doctors and patients alike. Ortho Technology’s Spider Screw does exactly that. The Spider Screw may sound intimidating, but in reality, these temporary anchorage devices can provide you with incredible versatility during difficult procedures.

Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADs) have seen more and more use in recent years as designs improve, and doctors recognize their distinct advantages. Compared to other anchoring solutions, like headgear, TADs are a far more elegant tool to secure predictable outcomes. Furthermore, the flexibility of miniscrews and similar TADs allow for highly precise corrections. The twice patented Spider Screw offer versatility to these invaluable tools, adding many features that make installation and treatment a breeze.

Made from nickel-free Grade 5 titanium, Spider Screws are reliable. Their self-drilling design makes installation easier for doctors and patients alike while asymmetrical threads give the screws unparalleled stability. But it’s the orthodontic-specific improvements that make the Spider Screw really shine.

Invented by Giuliano Maino MD, DDS, the Spider Screw was created by orthodontists for orthodontists. The bracket-like head of each screw features two intersecting .022″ slots to facilitate appliance placement. The under tie-wing can also function as an additional slot perfect for inserting wires or ligatures. Did we mention self-ligating models are available?

The Spider Screw has a lot to offer patients as well. The small head size and simplified installation/removal go a long way toward improving patient comfort. Throw in the fact that these TADs can replace unsightly head gear and certain orthodontic surgeries, and these are bound to be a popular choice for those looking for a great smile.

Quick, Safe, and Easy to Use

Few moments in orthodontics are more lip biting than interproximal reductions and cleanings. One slip, and you might cut yourself or your patient – and they probably won’t be giving you a referral after that. That’s why we’re proud to offer the safe, innovative QwikStrip Serrated and Abrasive Strips.

These colorful tools were designed with doctors and patients in mind. QwikStrip’s unique grip allows for confident, single-hand use. This gives doctors far better tactile control, even when working in spaces other instruments can’t reach. Beyond this superior ergonomic control, strips come in single-sided, double-sided, curved, and serrated models. No matter your specific needs or strip preferences, you’ll find the right QwikStrip for the job.

Best of all is the safety inherent in QwikStrip’s design. The strips are firmly embedded within the grip, and have a depth-limiting design to help shield both your hands and the patient’s lips and gums from any accidental incisions. Reducing this fear of harm makes for faster, easier, and more accurate interproximal work – meaning less chair time for patients and less risk for you.

So, regardless of which aligner system you’re using in your practice, QwikStrips should be readily on your tray. With a simple, color-coded system, you’ll know you’re reaching for the right strip every time. Your sales representative can ensure you never have to worry about running out of these extremely handy tools.

OT’s Product Manager – Anne Oliver

When I came to Ortho Technology back in 2006, I had no idea how far this job would take me. Having worked in advertising and print marketing in Memphis, I’d been brought on as a Graphic Designer in charge of making our products look great in all our marketing materials. I had to be familiar enough with all the devices and tools we offered to show off their features, but, as we evolved as a company, so did my role.

In 2016 I became our team’s product manager. Thankfully, the decade spent with Ortho Technology more than prepared me to take the plunge. Three years down the road, I’m teaching our sales representatives and other team members about our latest products – quite the transition – and I couldn’t have done it alone.

As a Product Manager, how do you keep an eye on hundreds of unique products, innovative ideas, and industry trends? Simple. You bring in as many perspectives as possible. Internally, this means holding monthly meetings with representatives from every department at Ortho Technology. This way we get feedback from a diverse range of experiences: sales representatives noting trends they’ve heard through daily customer phone contact and quality and regulatory experts ensuring our current and future products are meeting the highest standards, among many others. But we don’t stop at these internal product meetings. To ensure we’re truly delivering the best possible value to orthodontists, we have to ask them ourselves.

When I first took on this position, Shawn Potter, our Commercial Director of Operations, provided crucial leadership. While his years of industry insight were invaluable, the best instruction I received came down to a single sentence: “Get in touch with local orthodontists.” This was the start of the Ortho Technology Advisory Council (OTAC).

OTAC is made up of more than just local doctors. Orthodontists around the world have partnered with us to act as a sounding board for trends, ideas, and product modifications. This advisory board gives us an invaluable outside perspective on the ways we can bring even more value to every smile.

Of course, we must consider one more angle – the patient. Here I have a unique insight, at least when it comes to one of our most popular products. I love the Lotus Plus DS Bracket System because nothing else on the market is like it, and because, well, I use them myself! I’ve been wearing these self-ligating brackets for about two years now, and I love the results. Seeking outside perspectives is great, but sometimes it helps to find your own reason to smile.

Spreading Awareness of DIY Orthodontics https://www.orthotechnology.com/spreading-awareness-of-diy-orthodontics/ Mon, 05 Aug 2019 21:09:31 +0000 https://www.orthotechnology.com/?p=43704 The phrases “do it yourself” and “orthodontics” should never go together. And yet, some parents attempt to fix their children’s smiles themselves, often with disastrous results. Earlier this year, The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) shed light on this troubling trend on their blog - highlighting the dangers of this DIY approach and urging readers to consult a professional. We applaud AAO for directly confronting this serious issue.

DON’T DIY YOUR MOUTH!

Spreading Awareness of the Dangers of DIY Orthodontics

The phrases “do it yourself” and “orthodontics” should never go together. And yet, some parents attempt to fix their children’s smiles themselves, often with disastrous results. Earlier this year, The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) shed light on this troubling trend on their blog – highlighting the dangers of this DIY approach and urging readers to consult a professional. We applaud AAO for directly confronting this serious issue.

Framed as a case study, the post presents the story of a young Greek boy with a gap between his front teeth. Wanting to improve their son’s smile, but unwilling to see an orthodontist, his parents came up with a simple solution: a little rubber band. Stretched between the two teeth, the band closed the gap in two days – before disappearing into the boy’s gums.

Severe gum disease and tooth dislocation followed. Even after multiple dental procedures and surgery, the boy’s front teeth couldn’t be saved. Thankfully the orthodontic professionals at the University of Athens stepped in, and the patient was eventually able to have a beautiful smile. According to AAO, the orthodontists moved his remaining upper teeth forward and reshaped the canines and lateral incisors. The boy’s tooth gap is finally gone for good – although after far more extensive treatment than it would have taken if he had seen an orthodontist in the first place.

This is why AAO’s covering this subject matters. His parents wanted to help him, but they didn’t understand just how damaging manipulating teeth can be when you don’t know what you’re doing. Blog posts like this help spread awareness and can prevent near-tragedies like this one in the future.

Wanting to improve their son’s smile, but unwilling to see an orthodontist,
his parents came up with a simple solution: a little rubber band.

Many of us here at Ortho Technology are regular readers of AAO’s blog, and this article exemplifies why. It’s a straightforward, illustrative piece that speaks to both professionals and the general public alike. We can’t recommend this resource enough to members of an orthodontic office and their patients. It’s a great idea to point new hires and patients to aaoinfo.org/blog.

Open Bite Treatments that Last Thanks to Tongue Tamers® PLUS https://www.orthotechnology.com/tongue-tamers-plus/ Fri, 02 Aug 2019 16:55:27 +0000 https://www.orthotechnology.com/?p=43621 Considering the extensive treatment needed to correct severe open bite malocclusions, you and your patients want the results to stick. Unfortunately, treating these open bites often puts you up against one of the strongest sets of muscles in the human body: the tongue. Patients who have an unconscious habit of tongue thrusting when they swallow will gradually push their teeth back out of alignment. Fortunately, our new Tongue Tamers® PLUS system eliminates this challenge, allowing for rapid bite closure and improving patients’ overall oral health.

Open Bite Treatments that Last Thanks to Tongue Tamers® PLUS

Considering the extensive treatment needed to correct severe open bite malocclusions, you and your patients want the results to stick.

How It Works

Tongue Tamers® PLUS are bonded to the lingual side of the teeth, typically canine to canine, to act as a deterrent against the tongue. These nine, rounded protrusions won’t lacerate the patient, nor tear your gloves. However, they will produce an uncomfortable, coarse sensation when pressed against – similar to pressing your tongue against sandpaper. This creates a “hot stove” effect, discouraging subconscious tongue thrusts and allowing the malocclusion to be treated unhindered.

What’s Different?

The PLUS series of Tongue Tamers® represents a significant leap forward in patient comfort and clinical convenience. The miniaturized design makes these devices far less intrusive than past habit-taming models. This smaller size makes Tongue Tamers® PLUS ideal for young adolescents, who frequently have tongue-thrusting or thumb-sucking habits. Meanwhile, orthodontists will appreciate the added flexibility that comes from the design, allowing it to act as a button for engagement of cross-bite elastics. The body of the Tamers® is brazed to the bonding pad, which is fitted with an 80-gauge mesh to make sure those bonds hold.

Results

From easy placement to training positive habits, the Tongue Tamers® PLUS are essential for efficient open bite treatments that last. By working to keep the tongue at bay, they ensure the work of your brackets and elastics won’t be undone.

With the everchanging landscape of orthodontics and growing number of options for passive or interactive self-ligating brackets on the market today, consider these elements to get the clinical efficiency and results you demand. We listened to dozens of practitioners and spoke with our orthodontist advisory council to gather the eight most important features to look for in a self-ligating bracket system.

A Guide to Selecting the Right SLB for Your Practice

We’ve compiled a list of the most important features you should look for in a self-ligating bracket (SLB).

  1.  A door that resists opening
  2.  Easy and fast opening
  3.  Constantly maintained force
  4.  Total archwire slot engagement
  5.  Lowest possible friction
  6.  Allowance for increased friction (when desired)
  7.  Accommodation of elastic chain and accessories like Kobayashi ties
  8.  Patient comfort
Bonus: Rotational control with full slot width coverage

As a practitioner who values treatment efficiency and results, don’t overlook your options for self-ligating systems. Choosing the wrong bracket could mean poor archwire engagement and potentially set your treatment back weeks!

The good thing is we looked at the shortcomings of existing brackets in the industry prior to launching Lotus Plus DS, our self-ligating bracket system. And when it was finally ready to go to market, we knew we were checking off the important boxes for our customers, along with some bonus time-saving features.

If you want to see how our newest self-ligating bracket holds up to this list, visit www.LotusPlusDS.com to learn more.

Numbers to Smile About!

At Ortho Technology, we strive for our clients’ complete satisfaction. The quality of our customer service, the ordering tools we make available, the speed of our delivery, and the quality of our products are all elements that stand to save your clinic time and money. Ensuring we are doing our very best to make the entire process as turnkey as possible means never resting on our laurels. That’s why we conduct a customer satisfaction survey every year to hear directly from the clinics we serve.

The 2018 numbers have just come in, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results. With over 150 clinics participating in the survey, we are proud to report we received top marks across the board! From customer service to catalog design, the vast majority of responders gave Ortho Technology a 5 out of 5 “excellent” rating. Looking at these results, it’s clear last year’s breakout aspect of our company was the quality of our products.

Survey participants were asked to rate our bracket systems, buccal tubes, and wire products on a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being “poor” and 5 being “excellent.” Not only did all of these products receive an average score above 4.5 but they also markedly improved on 2017’s stellar ratings. For example, our buccal tubes received a score of 4.44 two years ago. By refining our products, we bumped up this score to a whopping 4.65. That difference is what innovation looks like.

Best of all, we were able to hear directly from the doctors we work with every day. We received many glowing accolades, many of which named members of our team directly. Reading through these fantastic, heartfelt testimonials brought us so much joy. Thank you to everyone who took the time to write such kind words.

As always, there’s room to do better. Until we’re scoring 5’s across the board, we’ll always be driven to deliver a better experience. A small number of responders reported isolated incidents of delayed shipments and missing payments. Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention. You have our word that we are ironing out these systems to keep these errors from happening in the future. We deeply appreciate all of our survey responders and are looking forward to wowing you all over again this year!

In addition to meats and produce, they have a wonderful selection of prepared foods. If you start to feel overwhelmed by the crowd, head on over to The Grove, adjacent to the Farmer’s Market. It’s hard to be bored at the Pier with numerous rides and activities including a roller coaster and arcade. Extending from Sycamore to LaBrea on Hollywood Boulevard, take a minute to check out your favorite celebrity’s star on the walk in one of the most recognizable landmarks in the country. A section of the Boulevard boasts a vivacious nightlife with clubs like The Viper Room and Whiskey a Go-Go.

8. Beverly Hills Hotel

Rub elbows with the rich and famous – or at least see where they stay when they come to visit. The hotel was built in 1912 and has since been named a historical landmark. Once you’ve had your fill of touring the grounds, stop in at the Polo Lounge for a quick bite, a premier dining spot for the likes of the RatPack and Humphrey Bogart back in the day.
